Picnic lunches will be served in the crater. Late afternoon drive back to Karatu and dinner and overnight stay at a lodge around Karatu.

ELEPHANT CAVES TREKKING – (day 10) This day is the time to stretch your legs after a few days in the car and have a short trek. We’re going to have a few hours to hike to the Elephant Caves and Endoro waterfalls. The start of the track is located in Karatu town near Gibbs farm. You will be accompanied by a professional guide. You will hike through the Ngorongoro rainforest – this is a corridor for animals between Lake Manyara National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. During your walk through the untouched forest, you will be able to observe all the beauty of wild nature and amazing life of wild birds. Your guide will explain to you everything about the animal’s tracks, analyzing their footprints. Why the elephant caves are called elephant caves? Those giants come to the rocks which are very rich in calcium, they hit the rocks with their tusks and eat the crumbles. It helps the elephants to absorb enough needed minerals and to make their bones very strong. The big holes are still there and that is why people call this place“elephant caves.” You will be able to come very close, even step inside the caves and see signs of elephant tusks. There is a small Endoro River near the caves, and the elder elephants pick this place as a point to spend late years of their lives and finally pass away. Some call this an elephant burial ground. After visiting the caves, you will track to the Endoro waterfall –a great spot to observe the view of Karatu town and take some unforgettable pictures. On the way back, we will stop at the Coffee farm where we can admire how this world-famous delicacy is harvested. Here, too, we will have the best coffee in the world. Driving and overnight stay in Lake Natron.

LAKE NATRON – (day 11) It is located nearby Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano ‘Mountain of God’, sacred to the Maasai. It is a pristine, rugged, and particularly fascinating place, allowing for excursions off the track. It is a 60 km long alkaline lake, located north-east of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, characterized by hues ranging from white to pink and brown, depending on the time of year. Its size, as well as its color, can vary significantly throughout the year, and its waters withdraw so much during the dry season that they leave large areas of land covered with a thick salt crust exposed. The excessive salinity of the lake makes it impossible for most animal species to live around it, except for the pink flamingos that nest here and live in huge flocks. We will visit this place by going on foot, beginning with the lake. This will be followed by an excursion to the enchanting waterfalls, going up a stretch of river from its fresh and pure waters, with the possibility of taking a pleasant bath under the waterfalls (it is recommended to wear shoes and the right attire). Dinner and overnight stay in Lake Natron.

ARUSHA AND MAASAI – (day 12) On this day we are back to Arusha but on the way, we will visit the Maasai village (boma), which delivers a unique insight into this wonderful culture with long and fascinating history. Once we arrive at the village, you can meet the people, visit a typical Maasai home, learn about Maasai daily life, enjoy dancing and singing displays and visit the community’s own handicrafts market. The vibrancy and variety of Maasai culture is unrivaled and typically centers around a brushwood enclosure into which the community’s cows and goats are herded at night. The village is built in line with ages-old traditions whereby each woman has her own hut, and male society is regulated according to a complicated hierarchy of age-sets, warrior-clans, elders, and laibons (prophet soothsayers). Maasai life is built upon numerous joyous celebrations, which mark the passage of time from birth to death, the dispensation of justice, the changing of the seasons, and the treasuring of the Maasai’s precious cattle. Unchanged for centuries, such celebrations specify a way of life that has remained unchanged by the arrival of modernity and numerous inventions. Overnight stay in Arusha.

ARUSHA – (day 13) the last day of the safari will also be well organized, giving you the chance to have breakfast before you leave, and, if possible, have a tour to the Arusha market to spend your last hours here shopping and buying souvenirs for your friends and family. We will then take you back to the airport, so you can happily return home with a heart full of memorable experiences. We never say goodbye, it’s always ‘till we meet again’!
